HW: Due week 7:
-Finish the Nerf gun you started in class.
-Bring in hard copy portfolio of all your work.
-Start e-portfolio or other digital version (email me the link to: rgabl@otis.edu)
Due week 8: Phase 3 and phase 4 of Time/travel project:
Phase 3: RENDERED AND COLORED DRAWINGS:
Depending how precise and accurate your #2 drawing is, you can render and color - if not - clean your drawing up and refine more and then render:
4 drawings, rendered total (1 H each).
YOU NEED TO HAVE RENDERING/COLOR TRY OUT SAMPLES:
Phase 4: Pick 1 of your favorite objects (1 of the 4 categories): Finish our drawing and render better if needed. Add different views/angles to clarify your design, indicate background, add scale (ex. a silhouette of a person) or measurements, ortho, oblique, isometric and/or exploded view.
Be ready to present your project, bring in ALL steps.
Usual drawing steps/phases:
Ideation is loose, sketch is a bit tighter, and drawing tighter than that.
Rendering would be the next (final) level after that.
Please see fabulous Craig Wey's e-portfolio:

Drawing steps:
1) Phase 2: Take your favorite sketch (ideation) (phase 1) , use it as an underlay, and trace it.
2) Phase 2: Clean up the lines, add/clarify perspective VP, (do not trace the construction) use consistent line-weights. Prisma Pencil.
3) Phase 2: Add more smaller details, improve proportions, maybe add another VP to clarify. Add light shading.
4) Phase 2: Add some texture indication to communicate your material.
5) Phase 2: Shade with grey toned Copics.
6) Try out your rendering style/media, swatches, material/texture type.
7) Phase 3: Different view points, exploded, flat pattern, functions
8) Phase 3/4: Color, refine outlines, (punch up the lines) render, texture, based on your rendering try outs and add shine.
9) Phase 4: Concept sketch with back ground, scale, (size) indication.
10) Add the info block

Step by step drawing the nerf gun (plastic with shine) Marker/mixed media technique:
1) Under drawing with a C2/Copic marker: Pay attention to proportion and perspective VP.
2) Refine outlines with a black Prisma pencil.
3) Shade in layers with grey shades of Copic markers: C4,C6,C8 and start with lightest layer/color first. Make sure you have contrast.
4) Color with marker (color shouldn't be darker than grey shading.
5) Add shine with white pastel or white Prisma pencil and blend.
6) Add more black Prisma outlines and make the drawing pop.
