This is an amazinmg 4 phase example of our midterm time-travel projuct:
By Travis Hyatt:
Week 7: Homework part 4/final step: Due week 8:
Pick 1 of your 4 drawings from the HW part 3, (due last week) and RENDER better. Add different views, indicate background (ortho, exploded, oblique, isometric) whatever works best to explain your object.
Week 8: Presentation: The full story of your Time/Travel Project (Midterm feedback)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are all Time-Travel project steps backwards:
Due week 8: Phase 3 and phase 4 of Time/travel project:
Phase 4: Pick 1 of your favorite objects (1 of the 4 categories): Finish our drawing and render better if needed. Add different views/angles to clarify your design, indicate background, add scale (ex. a silhouette of a person) or measurements, ortho, oblique, isometric and/or exploded view.
Be ready to present your project, bring in ALL steps.
Phase 3: RENDERED AND COLORED DRAWINGS:
Depending how precise and accurate your #2 drawing is, you can render and color - if not - clean your drawing up and refine more and then render:
4 drawings, rendered total (1 H each).
YOU NEED TO HAVE RENDERING/COLOR TRY OUT SAMPLES:
Phase 2: Homework, Part 2 - Time - Travel: (Week 5: 2/14)
Continue as HW (due 2/19,20,21, week 6).
4 SKETCHES : These should be evolved/new sketches:
- Pick 1 from each category of the ideation you like and sketch it large(r) on 1 page. (You can enlarge it in the copy machine and use it as an underlay). 4 pages/object types total.
- Correct the perspective, add detail, punch up the lines, and revise the design as needed. (you may need to do a few tests).
- The quality should be better than your ideation but not too tight. Keep it efficient, and make it “pop”. You can shade in marker.
-Think of materials/textures of each product.
-Try out rendering example(s) relating each product - AND BRING TO CLASS.
- Add the Info block. Each page number should match the number you put in the circle of your ideation.
Phase 1: Midterm project: Time - travel: Start as Homework: Part (phase) 1 due 2/12,13,14:
Pick a country and a period: Research the country and the period and find an inspiration image (es).
Each student must pick one object type of each category: (you will have 1 object type from each category - a total of 4 objects)
1) S+H: Furniture: A. Chair, B. Sofa, C. Lighting/lamp, D. Coffee table
2) S: Garment/clothing: A. Shoe, B. Coat/jacket, C. Bag/backpack, D. Hat
3) H: Transportation: A. Scooter, B. Car, C. Skate bord, D. Bike
4) S + H: Free choice of: A. Perfume bottle, B. Jewelry C. Electronic device
Draw 10 ideation sketches for next week (10 each object) 2/14: (Total 40 sketches, each 2” - 3” in size, 3 - 5 min each). Be able to present (week 5) and explain style/period/country.
Use VERYTHIN and/or LIGHT GREY MARKER and punch up the lines with a THIN BLACK MARKER or PRISMA PREMIER.
- Put a CIRCLE around 3 ideations you like from each group. Put a number next to your choice (1, 2, or 3).
ADD ON EACH PAGE THE INFO BLOCK:
1) YOUR Name 2) Title/Project, 3) Page #, 4Week #
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Usual drawing steps/phases:
Ideation is loose, sketch is a bit tighter, and drawing tighter than that.
Rendering would be the next (final) level after that.
Drawing steps:
1) Phase 2: Take your favorite sketch (ideation) (phase 1) , use it as an underlay, and trace it.
2) Phase 2: Clean up the lines, add/clarify perspective VP, (do not trace the construction) use consistent line-weights. Prisma Pencil.
3) Phase 2: Add more smaller details, improve proportions, maybe add another VP to clarify. Add light shading.
4) Phase 2: Add some texture indication to communicate your material.
5) Phase 2: Shade with grey toned Copics.
6) Try out your rendering style/media, swatches, material/texture type.
7) Phase 3: Color, refine outlines, (punch up the lines) render, texture, based on your rendering try outs and add shine.
8) Phase 4: Concept sketch with back ground, scale, (size) indication.
9) Add the info block
